Absinthe is a beverage slight aniseed flavor with a bitter background tints complex due to the contribution of herbs containing mainly Artemisia absinthium. When cold water is added and sugar, the beverage becomes milky louche essence. It began as an elixir in Switzerland, but which was made popular in France because of the association between artists and writers taking this drink in Paris in the late nineteenth century until production was banned in 1915. The most popular brand in the nineteenth century was Pernod Fils until its ban. During the Belle Époque the name became synonymous with the drink and the brand represented the de facto quality standard by which all others judged.
